New TDL working groups form to tackle metadata, preservation, DSpace issues

Several TDL working groups are forming over the summer to take on projects on behalf of the Texas Digital Library consortium. These include:

ETD Metadata Working Group

Chair: Sarah Potvin, TAMU

Members: Kara Long, Baylor; Colleen Lyon, UT Austin; Monica Rivero, Rice; Santi Thompson, University of Houston

Charge: The TDL ETD Metadata Working Group will provide guidance to TDL member institutions and other ETD practitioners on metadata for electronic theses and dissertations, with a particular focus on works published through the Vireo ETD submission and management application.

DSpace 4 Task Force

Chair: Kristi Park, TDL

Members: Cameron Kainerstorfer (UT Southwestern); Laura McElfresh (TAMU Galveston); Chris Starcher (Texas Tech University); Andrew Weidner (University of Houston)

In preparation for upgrades to TDL-hosted DSpace installations, the TDL DSpace 4 Task Force will compare  the current hosted version of DSpace (DSpace 1.7) with  the latest version (DSpace 4.x) and provide guidance to the TDL DSpace community about changes in the new version.

DuraCloud for Preservation Working Group

Chair: Ryan Steans, TDL

Members: Darryl Stuhr (Baylor); Rob Spragg and Annie Wu (UH); Heidi Winkler (TTU); Todd Peters (Texas State); Ladd Hanson (UT Austin); representatives from TAMU and Trinity University

The TDL DuraCloud for Preservation Working Group will test the TDL DuraCloud infrastructure and assist TDL staff in refining DuraCloud as a preservation service, in preparation for offering DuraCloud as a consortial service to TDL members.
