The Texas Digital Library (TDL) seeks a highly motivated project manager experienced in working with technical teams producing software products in support of the dissemination, management and long-term preservation of faculty created content.
The Texas Digital Library is a consortium of Texas institutions of higher education formed to develop solutions for the long-term availability of digital information produced at Universities in Texas and beyond. The consortium is committed to establishing and maintaining a shared infrastructure and services model that will enable faculty members to share and archive their research collections, publications, and grey literature.
Responsibilities: Reporting to TDL’s two co-directors, the project manager will work closely with the co-directors and with key project staff to ensure effective communication takes place among the various project teams. The TDL project manager will:
- Plan and manage assigned projects utilizing accepted project management methodologies.
- Coordinate effective communication and consultation with clients, project team members and other stakeholders with particular emphasis on facilitating communication (by means of online collaboration tools, frequent travel for in-person consultation, email and telephone) across project teams.
- Track projects against project plans.
- Act as a resource for information and planning efforts of project team leaders and TDL Directors.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is an experienced and personable manager comfortable working with individuals and groups, both in-person and online. The successful applicant will have experience in higher education (ideally in digital library work) and will possess excellent organizational and communication skills as well as skill in the use of standard project management techniques as they pertain to the production of digital library software and services.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
At least 5 years project management experience as it relates to technology projects whose focus is the production, maintenance and dissemination of online digital content.
Proven, successful experience working remotely with groups and individuals as a project manager.
Demonstrated excellent written, oral and online communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to present information in a group setting using standard presentation techniques and tools.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in field of discipline
More than 5 years of project management experience in working on technology projects with an emphasis on software development projects
Experience working on open source software projects
Experience deploying software applications in a large organization
