TDL Members install new Governing Board member, conduct other business at annual meeting

The Member Board of the Texas Digital Library met for its annual meeting in Austin on September 10. The TDL Member Board consists of the administrative head of each member of the TDL consortium. It meets yearly to discuss issues of concern to the membership and elect representation to the TDL Governing Board, which provides strategic direction for the organization.

Library directors or their proxies from TDL member schools attended the meeting, which was held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center during the Texas Council of Academic Libraries annual meeting. Shawna Kennedy-Witthar, Director of Information and Library Resources for the Cornette Library at West Texas A&M University, also attended the meeting as a guest of the TDL.

At the meeting, the group installed Douglas Ferrier, Director of the Killam Library at Texas A&M International University, as an at-large member of the TDL Governing Board. Mr. Ferrier was elected to represent the Tier 2 membership on the Governing Board and will serve a two-year term (2012-2014).

The Governing Board consists of the directors of the TDL’s four Tier 1 members, who serve ex officio, and three at-large members who are elected to staggered two-year terms. In addition to Mr. Ferrier, the at-large members of the Governing Board are Christine Shupala (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and Joan Heath (Texas State University).

The 2012-2013 TDL Governing Board will hold its first meeting on November 4 in Austin.

In addition to the announcement of election results, the Member Board meeting agenda included updates on TDL’s progress toward the goals set out in its strategic plan, budget and staff updates, and discussion of an initiative, spearheaded by Dana Rooks, Dean of the University of Houston Libraries, to recruit new TDL members. Dean Rooks will serve as Chair of the TDL Governing Board for the 2012-2013 academic year.
