Digital repositories are often home to recent scholarship. Housing electronic dissertations and theses and other scholarly works in digital repositories gives scholars greater exposure and contributes to the larger scholarly community by sharing research openly. Scholarly works in digital repositories have persistent links so authors can always reference their own work and researchers can locate their sources, and because they’re stored in digital repositories, they’ll be preserved into the future.
Scholarly works in digital repositories don’t have to be anything as lengthy or grand as a published dissertation either. The digital repository can also be a space for student works (undergrads too) and preprints and postprints of scholarly articles.
TAMU Galveston, for instance, has devoted an entire community in their digital repository to student works. You can see what these Aggies have been up to here.
