Texas Conference on Digital Libraries Code of Conduct
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The TCDL Planning Committee acknowledges that the virtual conference space can be just as rewarding – and just as exhausting – as an in-person conference. With that framework in mind, we planned a TCDL program that will keep you engaged, inspired, and energized.
MORNING
9:15am – 9:45am | Morning Coffee & Poster Playlist
10:00am – 11:50am | Morning sessions
We’ll start each conference day with a low-key “morning coffee” at 9:15 am where you can visit with colleagues. Tuesday and Wednesday morning coffee will have breakout rooms where you can watch our posters playlist and meet with some of the poster presenters there.
Morning sessions will begin at 10:00am Central and run for 50 minutes. Each session will have at least ten minutes before the next one begins.
MIDDAY
11:50am – 1pm | Lunch on your own / no programming
1:00pm – 1:50pm | Get Your Glow On
Lunchtime, 12:00pm-1:00pm, will be free of any sessions, so you’ll have time to eat, relax, and regroup without a fear of missing out (FOMO).
After the noon hour, we have planned special “virtual swag” offerings for our guests called “Get Your Glow On” sessions, where, instead of pens and notebooks, we’re offering attendees what we hope will be enriching, useful, and fun experiences. Look for the “get your glow on” sessions and you’ll find creative writing, artful meditation, financial literacy, and, naturally, a juggling lesson.
On Tuesday, we hope everyone will join our opening plenary session, when we will celebrate our TDL Award winners and hear our keynote address. After Tuesday’s keynote, starting at 1:00pm, our planning committee will use that time slot as an opportunity for folks to gather and reflect on Elaine Westbrooks’ remarks.
AFTERNOON
2:00pm – 3:50pm | Afternoon sessions
Like the morning sessions, afternoon sessions will run for 50 minutes with ten minutes in between. Afternoon sessions will begin at 2:00pm and run until 3:50pm unless noted otherwise.
The final day of the conference, May 26, should be a fun and informal half-day of programming with three birds-of-a-feather sessions related to our user groups and services. We hope you’ll stick around for fun and lively conversations to wrap up TCDL.
POSTERS
All day, every day | Virtual poster session
TCDL posters are available for viewing anytime on our YouTube channel. You can also view poster PDFs alongside the recordings. All posters will be included in our conference proceedings collection in DSpace. View poster playlist | view poster PDFs

GLOSSARY | SESSION TYPES & TRACKS
Birds-of-a-feather (session type) | Informal discussions about a particular topic; a.k.a roundtable (50 minutes: brief presentation / introduction followed by facilitated Q&A)
Break (session type) | No TCDL content during this time (so you don’t have FOMO)
Collections (track) | Session / presentation covering topics that fall under the collections management umbrella, such as digital preservation, repository management, cultural heritage collections and outreach, discovery & access, metadata, etc.
Get your glow on (session type) | Texas Digital Library and the TCDL Planning Committee opted to provide our guests with conference “swag” that was experiential, and – hopefully – beneficial, rather than physical. Our committee has curated four unique experiences for guests that are intended to nurture your mind, body, and spirit.
Networking (session type) | All are invited to join our informal networking sessions, intended to be as low-key and spontaneous as possible in Zoom. Think sleepy-headed chats over coffee & danish before the morning sessions commence.
Presentation (session type) | General talk on practical work, theoretical or speculative issues, or ongoing completed research (15 – 20 minutes, two per session)
Poster (session type) | Virtual Poster with a pre-recorded presentation of a PDF (approx. three minutes of prerecorded content per poster)
Reverse workshop (session type) | New this year: Brainstorming session allowing a presenter to describe a problem or issue within their institution and related to digital libraries, and seek real-time feedback and strategies from attendees (50 minutes: brief presentation / introduction followed by facilitated brainstorming / Q&A)
Scholcomm (track) | Session / presentation covering topics that fall under the scholarly communications umbrella, such as open pedagogy, open educational resources, scholarly publishing, copyright and fair use, research support, research data management, theses & dissertations management, etc.
Show & Fail (session type) | Short talks about programs, initiatives, workflows, or strategies you lead or participated in at your library that didn’t work out as hoped. This session type is new to TCDL and will celebrate risk-taking rather than success (approx 10 – 15 minutes per talk, four talks per session)
Workshop / Demo (session type) | In-depth instruction on important areas of digital library practice or demonstrations/tutorials of useful tools and technologies (5o – 90 minutes, one per session)
Tech (track) | Session / presentation covering topics that fall under the umbrella of devOps, software development, library technology infrastructure, open source software, etc.
