SPECIAL EVENTS

September 21-23 | Open Texas conference
The Texas Digital Library (TDL), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and the Digital Higher Education Consortium of Texas (DigiTex) jointly organize the annual Open Texas conference to convene librarians, faculty, administrators, and other open education practitioners and advocates.

The 2022 conference will be held fully online and FREE to attend.​

This year’s conference theme, “The Labor of Open Education,” invites participants to reflect on the work, creativity, art, and science of open education.

Jasmine Roberts-Crews and Dr. Karen Cangialosi will join the Open Texas 2022 Conference as keynote speakers.

Texas Digital Library invites members to attend the TDL Forum, a monthly meeting in which members can hear a brief presentation about the activities of the TDL staff and participate in a question-and-answer period.

Digital Preservation Interest Group

Description
This meeting is open to anyone interested in TDL’s and Texas digital preservation efforts and helping us to strengthen our impact by including more voices.

TDL Digital Preservation Services Users and other Texas-based workers interested in digital preservation topics meet quarterly on the third Thursday of the month from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM.

DSpace User Group

September 22 @ 10am

Description
Texas Digital Library’s DSpace Users Group (DUG) works to create an active community among DSpace users that:

  • facilitates mutual support for DSpace use and repository management;
  • identifies areas of work that could be taken on by member working groups or by TDL staff;
  • connects the TDL DSpace user community to the larger open source DSpace community in North America.

Meetings
TDL’s DUG meets monthly every fourth Tuesday of the month from 10am – 11am, CST.

GIS Interest Group

Description
TDL’s GIS Interest Group (GISIG) seeks to develop a Community of Practice around geographic information systems (GIS) and become a source of expertise for all Texas Digital Library consortium members and partners.

OJS User Group Meeting

September 8 @ 10am

Description
Purpose of the group |  The TDL OJS User Group works to create an active community among TDL’s users of the Open Journal System hosting service in the following ways:

  • By facilitating mutual support among library managers of the OJS hosting service, including the sharing of resources about library publishing policies and good practices
  • By facilitating better communication between TDL staff and libraries using this service
  • By identifying areas of work that could be undertaken by member-led working groups

Meetings
The OJS User Group meets every first Thursday of the month from 10-11AM CST.

TDL’s OJS Users Group is comprised of library liaisons for campus journals and is an exclusive benefit for TDL members only. TDL’s OJS Hosting Service Manager serves as a member of the group. Please contact us at info@tdl.org for more information.


Research Integrity Working Group

Description

Texas Digital Library’s Research Integrity Working Group introduces a values-based approach to research integrity and discovers ways we can work together to promote integrity in our own research, in our research assistance services, and in our instruction.

The Research Integrity Working Group hosts regular meetings and collaborates on off-line projects.

TDL Imaging Group

No meeting this month. 

Description
The mission of the TDL Imaging Group is to create and exchange information on both basic and advanced digital imaging and digitization best practices, in addition to establishing an open and inclusive environment for the exchange of information regionally, within the state of Texas, and surrounding areas.

Meetings
TDL’s Imaging Group occasionally hosts meet-ups and virtual birds-of-a-feather meetings, but does not meet regularly as a group. Instead, the Imaging Group utilizes their email list to exchange information and resources.

Texas Carpentries (TX-CARP)

September 26 @ 2pm

Description
TDL’s TX-CARP is open to all members of Texas Digital Library, and allows for resource sharing, co-learning and planning for the TDL Bronze Carpentry year. This group will plan and facilitate instructor training, plan at least four workshops, and craft a sustaining framework for instruction in Texas.

Web Archiving Texas Interest Group

Description
The purpose of the Web Archiving Texas Interest Group (WATXIG) is to build a community around web archiving in Texas, bring people together to share skills and resources to accomplish shared goals, and amplify our work that impacts the national and international web archiving community. TDL’s WATXIG meets quarterly on the fourth Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Central.
