As many of you are aware, TxHub is the DPLA Service Hub of Texas, providing metadata for thousands of cultural heritage items to the Digital Public Library of America. DPLA makes those items, and millions of others across the country through the web portal and its open API.
TXHub consists of two main components: the TDL DPLA Aggregation Service, operated by the Texas Digital Library, and the Portal to Texas History, maintained by the University of North Texas.
The TDL DPLA Aggregation Service from TDL is a metadata aggregator that harvests metadata only from participating institutions’ cultural heritage repositories. These repositories may be self-hosted, hosted by Texas Digital Library, or hosted by another third party.
The newly launched TxHub site at https://texas.dp.la/ makes digital photos, maps, books, artifacts, oral histories and more from libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies across the state freely available through a single site. Every time one of TDL’s DPLA Aggregation Service members shares their metadata, it will be included in this collection. You can find citations for the members’ images you see on the header for the site here.
The TDL DPLA Aggregation Service recently launched its members-only user group. That group will be responsible for maintaining the look and feel of the site over time as well as updating the collection highlights when appropriate.
TDL is proud to help share our members’ digital collections with a national audience through TxHub and DPLA. To learn more about TxHub and TDL’s DPLA Metadata Aggregation Service, please visit our website or email us at info@tdl.org.
