Questions and Answer

1) Why did you choose to work in libraries?

Library and information service is experiencing a rapid revolution shaped by digital technologies, that demands newer librarians to not only master knowledge of library science, but also have a diverse discipline background, as well as the skills and adaptability of technologies. There are many undiscovered patron needs and information seeking behaviors that need to be addressed by information service in the age of digital technology, that leads to the unavoidable integration of traditional information service with innovative development. I see the great potentials of library and information service development, and I value the roles of librarians playing as an educator and a researcher for information dissemination and knowledge distribution. That’s the reason I choose to work in libraries.

2) What projects or initiatives are you most excited about at your library?

There are many exciting and innovative projects going on at Texas Tech University Libraries. Some of these technologies and services that are developed or under developing feature cutting-edge solutions and make significant contributions to information dissemination, knowledge distribution, and research collaboration. Projects of technology and service development include Occam’s Reader an interlibrary loan platform for e-book lending, SAVE authenticated streaming system for ETD recitals and faculty recitals as well as other multimedia recordings, Book Raider a mobile app for searching book availability, OBILLSK a real-time shipment tracking system for ILL couriers, ALIEN the first library machine learning decision network, SHAPES a database for sharing 3D objects and modeling, InSight a digital solution to remote rare book research, Immersive VR service for anatomy classes, etc.

3) What is your most memorable TDL experience?

I attended and presented at two TCDL and learned a lot from colleagues of other institutional members. I feel like TDL is like a big family for academic libraries in Texas and the TCDL is like an annual family reunion, where I so much enjoyed interacting with all kinds of educators from Texas as well as from other states. The casual gatherings are a memorable experience to me because I was able to eventually get together with many colleagues who I had previously communicated a lot through emails but never met in person.
