Webinar #1: 3D Modeling of Library Spaces Using QGIS

Presenters: Michael Shensky (UT Austin) and Katherine Strickland (UT Austin)

In spring 2023 the UT Libraries worked with students in the UT Austin Master of Science in Information Technology and Management program on a  project to create a 3D interactive model of the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL) Map Room that could be deployed as a web app. This project resulted in the successful development of a new web app that was created using open source software and which will allow patrons to locate maps when visiting the PCL Map Room in-person and explore the collection virtually. This webinar will provide an overview of this web app’s development and show how others can use open source tools like QGIS for creating similar interactive 3D models of library spaces.
